Feel The Benefit Of Jersey

C:WindowsTempphp7DB2.tmpClyde's recent signing Matty Flynn scored his first goal for the club in Saturday's friendly against Airdrie while still getting used to his new surroundings. The midfielder has featured in all of the Bully Wee's pre-season games so far and sees plenty of positives. Last season, the former Dundee United trainee scored 14 goals while with Annan Athletic  - who were the highest scoring team in League Two - and he believes that Clyde will carry a similar goal threat this year.

He said: "I'm sure we will be able to score goals from plenty of areas. It is all about taking our chances because this team will definitely create a lot of opportunities with the attacking players we've got, plus the two full backs - Lowdon and McNeil - who are both really good going forward. Peter MacDonald will also be a great addition. It will be brilliant to have someone of his experience around the changing room, particularly for the younger players.  We've got a few new boys so just now it is all about us gelling. There's a lot of good players at the club but we know that quality alone doesn't win leagues; you need to gel together and have a bit of heart, a bit of dig and learn to win ugly when it's needed."

Flynn flew straight to Jersey, after a holiday in Mexico, and was the first player to arrive for the squad's training camp. He went on: "Jersey was great for us, especially as not many part-time teams would get the chance to do something like that.  The friendlies are also important and on Tuesday we were starting to feel stronger, against a full-time Dunfermline team. There were a few boys playing in different positions and the gaffer was looking at a few other things, so it was a good exercise overall. The gaffer demands a high intensity in training and out on the park as well. Before every game he says that performances can vary but the most important thing is that we are giving 100% in each game. If we have 11 players out there giving 100% then this team will have a great chance in the league as the quality is there. As I said though, we know that isn't always going to be enough and there will be times when we need to do things that may not be the prettiest, but are effective."
