| Falkirk midfielder Scott Arfield is looking forward to the Bairns' second successive relegation battle. The Bairns are looking to continue their fight against the drop from the SPL by moving level on points with St Mirren with a win over St Johnstone in Perth tonight. Falkirk have been bottom of the SPL for nearly the whole season but they have recent experience of surviving under intense pressure. They were just 20 minutes from the drop last season before now St Mirren striker Michael Higdon scored at Inverness to send the hosts down. Such experience is regularly discussed by Steven Pressley's squad as they look to evoke the same character. And Arfield will approach each game with enthusiasm as he looks to repeat the feeling of elation they enjoyed in Inverness. He said: "It's not something you want to be involved in every year but we would take the same outcome. The first season I came into the first team we were seventh. We couldn't go any higher or any further down the league. There was nothing to play for in the last five games. Last year we stayed in the league with 20 minutes to spare and that was brilliant. It was all cup finals and there was everything to play for. It was enjoyable and obviously the outcome was. Then we had the cup final, so it was probably the highlight of my career staying in this league. It could have been the worst week, knowing you were going down while preparing for a cup final. We were 20 minutes away from that and it was brilliant to get out of the situation. We're in the same situation and it's up to us to ensure it's the same outcome. It's not something you really want to go through but if I know we're going to stay in the league, then I'm not really that bothered." Arfield believes the character they showed last season will be the crucial ingredient if they are to manage to stay in the top flight this time around. The Bairns kept themselves six points behind Hamilton by coming from 2-1 down to get a point at New Douglas Park on Saturday. The Scotland Under-21 international said: "It's all about character and having the will to win, and just winning games. Since Steven's come in, he has lifted the place with his will to win. It's an awful positive place at the moment but it's all about results. We need to stay in touch. The whole of the bottom six are close and now we're playing against the teams round about us, we have a great chance. It's six-pointers and cup finals from now on." |
