Arbroath's new managerial pairing meant is was only a matter of time before the last of the old regime would have to move on.

Robbie Raeside has decided to call it quits after four and a half years with Arbroath. The mutual consent decision followed the appointment of Jim Weir as manager and he brought in his former assistant at Montrose, Kevin McGowne, to work with him again. Raeside combined playing duties with acting as assistant manager to former boss John McGlashan and he took on the caretaker manager role after McGlashan left in October. With a new managerial partnership in place, defender Raeside has agreed that a parting of the ways is best for all parties involved.

Raeside said: "I have had a great four years at Arbroath and would like to wish Jim, Kevin and all the players success over the rest of the season. It is time for me to move on now and I want to continue to be involved in football going forward."

Raeside’s aim for the moment is to revert to a playing only and last season’s Player of the Year at Gayfield could make a quick return as an amateur player in the SFL. He said: "I want to play on for the time being and reckon I can add value to any Second Division Team. If I play as an amateur I can be back a week on Saturday as I have not played for several weeks and that speeds up the clearance period for re-registering."
