C:WindowsTempphp60FB.tmpRaith Rovers bid farewell today to their veteran goalkeeper, David McGurn who completed his permanent transfer to Cowdenbeath, managed currently by another former Rover, Liam Fox. The League Two side are looking to bounce back into League One following relegation last season. It is always helpful to have a safe pair of hands at the back for the upcoming battle for promotion. McGurn is keen to be playing regularly, and moved to Central Park to begin the next chapter of his career which included 200 games for Raith Rovers spanning eight years.

Rovers Chief Executive Eric Drysdale said:  "Davie has been a model professional throughout his Raith Rovers career. He is one of very few Raith players over the years who have achieved 100% backing from the Stark’s Park faithful throughout. We will all have our favourite moments, the saves that earned him his nickname (The Witch) , but I also recall his fantastic strength of character he displayed when I visited him in hospital after his career threatening injury in October 2013. He knew he might never regain full fitness, but he was resolutely determined and did fight back to feature strongly for Stranraer during his loan spell last season. He leaves with our immense gratitude for all he has helped the club achieve over these eight years."

For his part McGurn said: "I just wanted to thank the fans and the board for all their support, and in particular new manager Gary Locke who has been great with me over the last few weeks. I am also delighted that I will have the chance to say goodbye to the fans at Stark’s Park. I’m thrilled to announce that a testimonial match is to be organised for me. An independent committee led by John Greer has already been formed and is beginning its work to pull together arrangements for what’s sure to be an emotional night for me. Good luck to the Rovers next season."
