It was 'Early Doors' derby day joy for Cowdenbeath as 1st half goals from Brian Fairbairn and Jon Robertson sealed the win in the noon kick off at Central Park as Danny Lennon's men leapfrogged Brechin City into second place in the Irn-Bru 2nd Division table.

Cowdenbeath came out with all guns blazing and put East Fife to the sword after only two minutes. Robertson's effort was blocked by Baillie but former East Fife man 'Frankie' Fairbairn was on hand to fire home his first goal of the season from four yards.

At this stage it looked a case of 'how many' as Cowden consistently opened up the New Bayview sides rearguard but Stevie Crawford scored a shock equaliser after 12 minutes from his sides only real effort on target in the 1st half.

Justice was restored two minutes later thought when Robertson kept up his goalscoring form and swept home from 12 yards after the visitors failed to clear their lines. The Methil club's big spending was not evident as black and gold looked very ordinary in the wide open spaces of the Fife Maracana.

The self styled Blue Brazil's movement, incisive passing and pace was causing East Fife all sorts of problems but the away side avoided any further damage before the interval

Following their promotion through the back door following Livingston's unexpected demotion due to financial problems at the start of the campaign 'Beath can now regard themselves as serious contenders for a First Division place next season, something of a Nirvana if you are a long suffering Cowden fan who has only seen his/her side promoted three times since 1990 with no long stay out of the basement of the SFL to enjoy.

Can Danny Lennon join fellow ex-Hibby players John Brownlie (1992) and Mixu Paatelainen (2006) as a promotion winning manager of Cowdenbeath this term (via on field play this time) ?

Cowden fans can now start to dream that the Easter Road connection can bring success again to the at times beleaguered Kingdom club.

The First Division is indeed nosebleed territory for the 'Beath but, for the moment, Blue Brazilians will enjoy their own personal high being experienced right now.
