The top of the First Division is very close but Morton want to have a say in who leads.
Seven points is the difference between the protagonists today at Cappielow and Morton caretaker manager Allan McManus is looking to change that to a gap of four points by 5pm tonight. McManus and fellow temporary boss James Grady know they are on the shortlist for the permanent position so want to ensure they can demonstrate they can deliver what the Morton board and fans want to see. Former Hearts and St Johnstone stopper McManus has his final youth coaching licence exam to look forward to this week but he is more worried over whether his side can pass the stern test set to be posed by Jocky Scott's men. He said: "Dundee are one of the sides tipped for promotion but we'll prepare for them in the best way we can. Obviously they have a lot of good players but it's about how we approach the game, believe in ourselves and counteract that."

Dundee Midfielder Gary Harkins has a foot injury but should be fit yet defender Craig McKeown is out with a groin problem for today's game. This sort of thing has manager Jocky Scott facing a tough decision on what if any changes should be made for the game after the midweek collapse against Ayr. Dundee dropped a couple of points against second bottom Ayr after leading by two goal goals. Those points would have meant they would have been top of the league but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Scott said: "I am in a quandary. When you look at the whole game and the performance, both individually and collectively, you could say there should be changes or you could leave things as they are. If Morton had someone at the game they would be saying to their players to launch the ball forward and get it into the box early to test us out. There were positives and negatives but I just have to wait and see how everyone is before making any decisions." | Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)
