Dargo Out To Impress

St Mirren's striker Craig Dargo is planning on scoring the winner against former club Inverness on Boxing Day. Dargo has not played since his goal gave the Paisley club a 1-0 win over Hibs in August. A freak knee injury picked up in training led to months of frustration but after scoring in recent bounce games against Cowdenbeath and Motherwell, he is looking forward to helping Saints to three points on his return to the Highlands. The former Raith Rovers and Kilmarnock player said: "I am looking forward to it. I've been out a long time and it's good to be back training among the lads again. It was a freak accident. I blocked a pass in training with my toe and it tweaked my knee. At first I thought it was something to do with my medial which can take eight to 10 weeks to heal but it wasn't getting any better. I saw specialists and had scans. I was just desperate to get back and I didn't help myself by trying to get back too quickly. But I had a second injection in the knee and that has helped. I feel great and I'm desperate for the game to be on I've had a couple of bounce games and now I need match sharpness. It's great to go back up to Inverness and see everybody again but I would love to play and obviously score the winner. That would be the ideal scenario for myself, that would be a perfect Christmas present for me. I don't think it would be for them but that's just the way it is. It will be great to see everyone but you want to to do the best you can for the club you are at and we need the points more than Inverness."

Buddies boss Danny Lennon welcomed Dargo back and is considering giving him the nod to start against Caley. Lennon said: "At the beginning of the week I would have said he wasn't fit to start the game to be honest. We had a bounce game against Cowdenbeath at our stadium and I was delighted to give Dargo and Paul Gallacher another 90 minutes. We also played Motherwell in a bounce game indoors at Toryglen and that went well. Dargo scored two against Cowdenbeath and one against Motherwell and in the small-sided games we have had this week in training he has shown he is a natural finisher and sharp as a tack. I'm sure I will get a lot out of him, even if it's only for an hour. If we don't start him then we know we have somebody with a bit of quality to come on and make a difference. He is prolific and he only needs a sniff. He is a bit of a legend up there and I'm sure that he will be looking to put one over his old team."
