There was not much point in agreeing any deals until Jim Jeffries knew just what sort of budget he was going to have to live within.

Now that they are safely in the SPL for another season, Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies feels he can start contract talks with defensive pairingDavid Lilley and Tim Clancy. Killie had to put talks over new deals on hold until their league status for 2009-10 was known. Having sealed survival last weekend, they are now set to sit down with some of their players who are out of contract this summer and seer if they can secure deals agreeable to both parties.

Jefferies said: "
I'll be sitting down with players to discuss contracts fairly soon as I don't want it to drag on. We've got one or two that are out of contract that I'll need to have a chat with to see what they are thinking. David is out of contract, but he wants to stay. He has had a really good finish to the season. He had a few problems with injuries, but he's played in the last 13 matches and has done really well for us. I've spoken with his agent and we've had a brief chat, so we'll meet up sometime next week. Tim is also keen to stay and the chairman and his agent have spoken. Tim has done well recently. The injuries he's had have delayed his progress as it took him a while to come back. We had a wee chat and I stuck to my word by giving him his chance and he's taken it."
