Airdrie United already have some silverware to polish and would like to kick-start their league campaign with another cup win.
The Homecoming Cup third-round sees Airdrie United welcoming Cove Rangers from the Highland League. Manager Kenny Black is looking to freshen up his starting XI the game and has a fully-fit squad to choose from. With league form not helping, Airdrie United are currently bottom of the Scottish First Division, Black wants to see some of the fight that won them the Alba Cup a fortnight ago. Although Airdrie go into the game as strong favourites, Black is determined to avoid any complacency. He said: "I have played in some games when you are expected to win but it doesn't always turn out that way, so we will need to have a professional attitude. We have had Cove watched twice. They are opponents who can cause you problems and if you don't do your homework then you can come unstuck. It will be important to get a win and maybe hit the back of the net again and start keeping clean sheets."
Cove Rangers manager John Sheran also has a full squad to choose from for the game. The Highland League champions may go into the game as underdogs, but Sheran has challenged his players to ignore the odds and rise to the occasion. He said: "You only get one chance in these types of games so we will go there looking for the win. We probably won't be as attack-minded as we would normally be, but we will certainly put them under pressure. If we can do that and get the fans turning on their backs, then you never know. We are all looking forward to the game, and it is a chance for the players to go out and become heroes." | Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba.net)
