The prospect of playing against the best in the league this month does not daunt St Mirren.
St Mirren have a tough month ahead of them as they have Hearts on Saturday then have a run of games which includes away trips to Aberdeen and Rangers before returning home for games against Celtic and Dundee United. Manager Gus MacPherson is looking forward to the challenge of the intense set of fixtures coming up. MacPherson insists his players are excited by the challenge before them. He said: "Our run of games coming up doesn't get much tougher but that's the challenge to the players to go and compete against the best. We're looking forward to it. Ideally we would have liked a full squad but that tests us and we're looking forward to the challenge. You look at the game we're going into in the next month and everyone has got to be ready. Looking at the games it's going to be a tough ask and a case of using all the bodies which are at our disposal. We're delighted with the way we've played but frustrated at not picking up the points we feel we should have. You've just got to try to maintain that standard of performance and hopeful you get the breaks on the day and a bit of luck in front of goal and you can pick up the three points instead of one, especially when you're at home."
While the squad are looking forward to the games ahead, striker Craig Dargo has been told he has to be patient and that his chance will come at St Mirren. Dargo has started just one game this season after picking up an injury on the eve of the new season. The striker has been unlucky with injuries since his move from Inverness in 2007, with his first season blighted by a serious knee injury. With Billy Mehmet in blistering goalscoring form, Dargo has had to twiddle his thumbs on the bench. With the crammed fixture list for November, MacPherson knows he will have to utilise his whole squad to cope and insists Dargo's chance will come. MacPherson said: "Craig is getting sharper in every game. There's competition now. Craig just needs to be patient as his time will come. Every player is desperate to show what they can do on the pitch. If they miss out they need to use that disappointment as a positive. There is nobody more disappointed than Craig Dargo. When they come into a new club and get the setbacks then frustration can kick in. They sometimes try to hard but Craig just needs to be patient as he will come good." | Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)
