Blue Brazil No More?????

Last updated : 31 March 2010 By Alex Horburgh

Maybe not surprising as the current owner has a RUGBY background. There was a meeting last year about a new ground at South End of town attended by too many fogeys and local worthies against the plan and not enough direction within the club or town to push it on. This might come as a surprise but I ain't really b o v v e r e d. Cowdenbeath were never a progressive club in my eyes and I am only really marking time until I can get a chance to move on again out of the town. It is stuck in a time warp and you just have to look at the local paper to read all the blowhards and their time warp "Labour fir the workin' man" views. You reap what you sow and Cowdenbeath FC and town have sowed f... all for years.

Everybody was warned at meeting a year ago that club needed a new ground to survive but the local council will only allow recreational facility and not a superstore to be built at Central Park so club canny do a deal with Tesco or Sainsburys. Worthies at the meeting only cared about folk parking cars near their houses at the South end on football days and shouted down plans for state of the art community stadium. This is not Third Lanark this is public apathy getting what it deserves - they were warned club was on the brink.

The current Cowden ground is unfit for 1st Div football. Their pitch is too small due to the previous owner widening the stock car track and floodlights are sub standard says the SFL inspection committee. Ironically, the supermarket chain that could have done deal with the club are now set to build on site of the club's first ground at the north end of town which is now an amateur team's pitch. Cooncil, local apathy and years of make do and mend at Central Park is to blame. Crowds never get above 400 average no matter what the league position is. This has been coming for the last 20 years.
