spartansThe SFA's Compliance Officer has been kept busy within days of being introduced to the world of Scottish football. Vincent Lunny issued a notice of complaint to Spartans for fielding an ineligible player during their Scottish Cup second-round win over Culter. If found guilty as charged they will be excluded from the competition after being drawn at home against Partick Thistle By Mark McGhee at Musselburgh racecourse yesterday. They will have to answer charges of breaching two of the competition's rules at a hearing on 10 November.

It is understood the SFA investigation focuses on the registration of striker Keith McLeod, who has been with the club since 2000. Spartans, who won Saturday's game 2-0 , stated they were aware they were the subject of an SFA investigation. Chairman Craig Graham said: "We are awaiting to be advised of the next steps. Naturally we cannot comment further until we hear more from the SFA."

This is not the first time Spartans have fallen foul of the rules. Three years ago  they and Elgin fielded ineligible players in a third-round tie, which City won. The SFA ruled that the game should be replayed with Spartans, who had made an "administration error" and failed to register Dean Hoskins properly, winning again.
