Annan Athletic may be the new boys in the SFL but they have held their own and have ambitions for promotion.

Annan are set to welcome back Peter Watson for the game at Galabank against Elgin after he was unavailable for selection in midweek. The defender missed Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Forfar but manager Harry Cairney is hoping he will be able to line up against Elgin this weekend. However, Cairney will be without striker Jamie Dunbar once again through injury. The midweek defeat dented Annan's hopes of a play-off place but the club remain only six points behind fourth-placed Dumbarton, and Cairney is determined to get back to winning ways against the Third Division's bottom side this weekend. He said: "
We were disappointed in midweek but it's not out of our reach and a few wins would get us back in there."

Elgin manager Ross Jack could lose three key parts of his defence he feels played a significant part in recent back-to-back home wins. Central stoppers David Niven (arm) and Graham Munro (ankle) are fresh injury worries, while illness forced left-back Ally MacDonald out of Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat at Albion Rovers. Regular centre-back Paul Kaczan is still struggling to regain fitness, stop-gap defender Liam Keogh is expected to be offshore while young right-back Duncan McPhee is out for two to three weeks, leaving Jack with a real dilemma on his hands. The Elgin boss admitted it would be "
touch and go'' whether Kaczan was fit to come back for the Borders trip despite resuming training this week. RAF trio Darren Shallicker, David Craig and Steven Smith should all come back into the frame after returning from work commitments in Cyprus. Earlier this week Jack said: "I just hope I've got enough numbers to make up a team. We'll assess them right through the week and see who we can patch up to play."
