A Win Will Come

C:WindowsTempphpB9D4.tmpSt Johnstone v Aberdeen was the only Scottish Premiership game on the weekend card, as the Scottish Cup games dominated, which ended in a 3-4 win for the visitors. The result took Aberdeen level on points with Celtic but the Glasgow side have a game in hand and a superior goal difference. The result also meant that St Johnstone remained in mid table with 32 points behind Ross County but they also have a game in hand on their Dingwall rivals. Saints' Graham Cummins was not happy with the result.

He said: "I think a loss is a loss, at least we scored towards the end which gives us a bit of belief going into next week.  Even at 4-1, it wasn’t a 4-1 game. We had good chances; I’ve had a chance, Scobbs (Tam Scobbie) has hit the post and we have had one cleared of the line. I think we played well considering Aberdeen are joint top of the league now, I’d say we probably played better today than when we beat Aberdeen up there. They just took their chances in the first half and when you go 2-0 down it’s difficult to get back into the game, but we just hope to carry the end of the game into next week”.

Cummins had a great chance in the first half to score when he rounded the Aberdeen keeper, Scott Brown, but his shot at a tight angle went just wide. He went on: "I knew when I brought it round him, I knew I had took it too far, if I’m being honest I was thinking he might take me down. When I’m looking at him he’s come, he’s gone back, he’s come again and I’m thinking ‘just go round him’. It’s a bad touch by me, my touch was too heavy but I need to take that on the chin and just move on. The positive for me is that at least I felt like I’m getting back to fitness, that’s my first 90 minutes since last October so it’s been a long time".

This result means that it is now no wins from nine games in all competitions for the Perth side. The last time St Johnstone scored a winning goal was back in early December, however, Cummins is not too despondent and feels that the next win is not far away. He said: "It’s good to get goals again because we haven’t been scoring a lot recently and back at the start of the season, people were probably shocked at how much we were scoring. We looked dangerous again today and that’s the way we want to play. It is just four mistakes that cost us, it’s not like Aberdeen took us apart, they have just capitalised on our mistake and their finishing was excellent. Obviously we are playing a team that are high in confidence, they are one of the strongest teams in the league. I think if you compare this performance to our Celtic one a couple of weeks ago, there is no comparison. We got the ball down, we looked more comfortable and we looked dangerous, which we haven’t done in the last few weeks".
