A Return For Mixu?

C:WindowsTempphp3C36.tmpIt was maybe inevitable that Colin Nish would leave Cowdenbeath after they were relegated via the play offs last weekend but who could the next manager of the Blue Brazil be? Recently sacked from Dundee Utd, Mixu Paatelainen is a resident of Burntisland, 10 miles from Cowdenbeath, and he got the club promoted in his one and only season as manager in 2005-06 could the Finn, a popular figure at Central Park when in charge, be tempted back to the hot seat?

Ex-Hearts Scottish Cup winner Colin Cameron may be another former manager who could return to the Fife club. He did well there, taking them to promotion like Mixu, before moving on. His sacking at Berwick Rangers this season was a blow as the club were only a few points off the promotion play offs in League 2 when he was shown the door by a Shielfield board who were looking down rather than up the league at the time. Berwick subsequently struggled following Cameron's departure.

Could former Rangers vice chairman Donald Findlay, currently Cowden chairman, persuade ex-Ranger Barry Ferguson to take on a new challenge should Clyde fail to win the League 1 promotion play off final on Saturday at Hampden v Queens Park? Ferguson doesn't need the money and although he see Clyde as "a long term project" surely Findlay would not rule out a speculative approach for the former Scotland star. It is true Cowdenbeath need a 'name' at the helm after failing with the untested managerial form of Nish who replaced ex-Man United stalwart Jimmy Nichol at Cowden.

Cowdenbeath FC issued the following statement on Thursday 12th May; "Following the club's relegation to League 2, it has been decided that manager Colin Nish's contract will not be renewed. Colin came in at a point where the club was to an extent in transition after three seasons in the Championship and thus he was faced with a number of challenges in his first managerial role. Last season, we enjoyed a spell as challengers for a play off place which was the target but ultimately form tailed off and we suffered this further demotion. Thus regretfully the Board decided that the managerial position would need to be revisited. The Board of Cowdenbeath FC thank Colin for all his dedication and hard work on behalf of the club and sincerely wish him well in all his future endeavours and career."
