SFA Confirm EURO2008 Bid!
(StuartCrowther)

The Scottish Football Association have confirmed that Scotland will attempt to host the 2008 European Championships. And the SFA's Chief Executive David Taylor is saying today that the first priority will be for Scotland to go it alone with their bid -only resorting to sharing the championships with Ireland or Wales as a last resort.

The news will be welcomed by the many fans who have back the campaign on this site for a Scottish EURO2008 bid, in spite of negative statements made by a number of leading sports writers that Scotland is '
too small' to host such a large football festival. Politicians in theScottish Parliament however have backed the bid from the start -and today Taylor said: "We would like to make a bid on our own, but if that does not prove to be the best option, we will have to consider whether we should go in alongside someone else."

The Chief Executive however made it clear that everyone will need to pull together if the Scottish bid is to be a success, adding: "I
t has to be a very public campaign and that involves a lot ofexpenditure. We will not commit ourselves to that unless we believe there is a realistic chance of success."
